Interview with Taylor Theis
How long have you been working at Elk Cove?
I joined the team on Valentine’s Day in 2018, a sweet marker in time. This February marked 2 years!
Why the Five Mountain?
Our 2017 Five Mountain is layered and complex, offering notes of sifted and fine wet earth, rustic spices, huckleberry compote and cherry blossoms. When sipping this wine, I am reminded of the smell of a brisk- spring Oregon day, one where droplets of rain are lightly bouncing off newly budded blossoms, piercing the rain and sun in the crisp spring sky.
How did you get into wine?
I started my wine journey via traveling the world as a dancer, I was introduced to so many wonderful places but most importantly wonderful wines. Today I dance less and enjoy wines more (occupational hazard!), but I often think of the intersection of choreography and well-crafted wine. Much like creating a dance, when creating a fine Elk Cove wine, there are layers of complexity, attention to detail and most importantly sharing with others.
Tell us something interesting about the Elk Cove Roosevelt Club:
Our wine club was founded in the ’90s, built up of a few loyal Elk Cove enthusiasts. When we started, we only had the resources to share our wines with people close by our tasting room, 30 years later we’re now able to ship our wines to nearly every state and we have wine club members in 48 of them!
