Created by wine journalist Karen MacNeil, Come Over October encourages friends, family, and colleagues to “come over” during the month of October.
THE COME OVER OCTOBER MISSION:
Our mission is to encourage people to invite family and friends, new and old, to come together during the month of October to share some wine and friendship. We believe that through the simple act of sharing wine, we share other things that matter— generosity, caring, and a belief that being together is an essential part of human happiness.
How can you celebrate Come Over October?
The purpose of Come Over October is to share wine, celebrate friendship and focus on the in-person connection. This could be as simple as bringing some friends out to wine country for a tasting, gathering at a wine bar, or sharing a bag of chips, a bottle of wine and some good conversation at home.
Here are some other great ideas for how to celebrate Come Over October from the Elk Cove crew:
Go Apple Picking. “I love to go apple picking in the fall. We drive up the mountain with on a sunny fall day. We have kids, so we usually invite another family along so the kids can pick apples together. We usually bring a bottle of Pinot Blanc, some cheese and crackers and a good paring knife for slicing apples, so we can all enjoy a picnic in the orchard.” – Anna
Puppy Play Date: “We have two bernedoodles that need their exercise, so we like to invite 2-4 dog friends over for a puppy play date. We let them run amock in the vineyard while the puppy parents chat and catch up, usually over Rosé in a govino.” – Sabine
Host a Wine Tasting: “One of my favorite tastings to host this time of year is a Soil Trilogy – three wines made by the same winemaker, in the same style, from different soil types. People are always amazed that they can tell the difference between wine grown on Jory, Laurelwood or Willakenzie soil.” – Adam
Projector Night: “There’s nothing better than a Friday night horror movie in October – it gets dark early but it’s still warm enough to spend an evening outdoors, especially if you have a fire pit. I like to bring some Blanc de Blancs, crème fraîche and potato chips to share.” – Kohl
Watch Wildlife From The Porch. “This October I plan on bringing our little one and a couple of bottles of Late Harvest Riesling for a traditional Sunday dinner at my grandparents’ house in Central Oregon. I’m especially looking forward to sitting on the porch at dusk with my family watching the deer.” – Nicole
Game Night: “We like to play Euchre, Scrabble or Cards Against Humanity. Everyone brings a bottle of Pinot noir and some game night snacks. M&Ms mixed with popcorn is my favorite.” – Shelby
Halloween Candy and Wine Pairing: “We do this every October before Halloween in the Pike Road tasting room and it’s always a popular event. You’d be surprised how good some of the pairings can be!” – Dane
Sunday Night Football: “October is football season for us. So we invite friends over and someone makes a big pot of soup and we all bring a bottle of wine and watch the game.” -Chloe
