2022 Roosevelt

Intensely perfumed with black cherry, rose petal and hickory-smoke, the palate bursts with black currant and cherry cola alongside savory notes of graham cracker and cinnamon stick. Robust, velvety tannins are balanced by pretty notes of violet and coriander.

The 2022 Elk Cove ‘Roosevelt’ Pinot Noir delivers plenty of salty minerals alongside juicy guava, red currant and wild strawberry fruit flavors, with orange zest and shades of bergamot on the palate. Fresh and neatly-textured, with bright underlying acidity, enjoy now and over the next ten to fifteen years. Drink 2025-2037

Elk Cove 2022 Roosevelt Pinot Noir – Estate grown, 30-year-old vines are the exclusive source for this reserve. Named for the Roosevelt elk that also gave the winery its moniker, this is deeply flavorful and grounded in blackberries and black cherries with highlights of dark chocolate. The tannins are ripe and polished, more evident here than in the other cuvées. Having waited an extra year to review these wines I am more convinced than ever that they need that time; earlier assessments may be premature and incomplete.

Polished and alluring, with elegantly layered flavors of raspberry and guava accented with forest floor, cinnamon and dusky spices as this builds tension toward fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2033. 386 cases made.

“The 2022 Pinot Noir Roosevelt is bursting with fragrant raspberry, lavender, wild fennel and mushrooms on the nose, revealing further nuances as it opens in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is detailed and spicy. It has a gently chalky texture, fireworks of fresh acidity and a long, nuanced finish.”
